League Constitution |
| |
Wednesday 20th April 2009 |
| |
The League Management Committee has been informed by Mike Appleby, Leagues Manager at The Football Association, of the following decisions that have been made with regard to the constitution of the Vodkat League for season 2009-2010.
AFC Fylde have been promoted as champions to the UniBond League Division One North. However, the Vodkat League will not receive a team relegated back from a league at Step 4 in the National League system.
The FA had previously advised the League Management Committee that Flixton had failed to meet the necessary F Grade ground grading standard to enable them to remain at Step 5 in the National League system, our Premier Division. The FA had therefore advised that Flixton should be relegated from our Premier Division. However, the FA has now informed us that Flixton have since been given the F Grade ground grading status, and will therefore remain in our Premier Division. This means that Abbey Hey and Atherton Collieries occupy the relegation positions in our Premier Division.
As the Vodkat League is not receiving a club back from a Step 4 league, to maintain the quota of 22 clubs in our Premier Division only Atherton Collieries will be relegated to Division One. Abbey Hey will retain their Premier Division status, and Bootle and Padiham will be promoted to the Premier Division.
Division One will in turn be reduced to 17 clubs, and with the resignation of Darwen FC from the league, this further reduces the number of clubs to 16. Barnoldswick Town of the West Lancashire League have applied to join Division One for the start of the 2009-10 season, and their application will be voted on by member clubs of the Vodkat League at the AGM on Saturday June 20th.

The curtain finally came down for this season at the Brian Boys West View Stadium, although the grand finale was not the ending Manager Brent Peters would have wanted he must be immensely proud of his troops to which they have played four games in an incredible six days.
The week started with a three one home victory against Squires Gate on Monday, the players were then afforded Tuesday & Wednesday off before playing on three consecutive days, Thursday away at Congleton where they suffered a 6-3 defeat to return the following evening to the Brian Boys Stadium to take on local rivals Ramsbottom from which a John Robinson hatrick helped Bacup to a stunning 6-3 victory against their near neighbours, further goals coming from Tommy Turner, Martin Cosgrave & Warren Collier, the final task did come on Saturday when Newcastle Town were the visitors, whilst Newcastle have been afforded one weeks rest prior to this game, Bacup have had to endure three days of football, although the only goal separating the two sides at the break was an 18th minute penalty this as a direct result of a bad goal kick from Paul Horridge putting the ball out for a throwing, this then resulted in a Kyle Harrop rash challenge from which the penalty kick was awarded and converted.
It was no surprise that following the break the Bacup players were very much leg weary, Jamie Rother had to be replaced along with Sean Roscoe and Matthew Andrews, the latter apart the substitutions were inevitable due to fatigue, despite getting Warren Collier & Martin Cosgrave & Karl Stanley onto the pitch, Newcastle just cut through the Bacup defence to add a further three goals to their tally, the nearest Bacup had of working the Newcastle keeper was when Karl Stanley collected the ball on the right side of the pitch before moving into a more central position from where he unleashed a goal bound effort which was tipped over the bar for a corner which was defended.
Manager Brent Peters Had This To Say “ This squad of players this season have been an absolute joy to work with, their attitude, their commitment & their will to win games have been first class, they have been a credit to themselves, to myself and my Management team & to Bacup Borough Football Club, to be faced with the run in during the past ten days that these lads have been faced with, not only the run in but to have had to play four games in six days of which three days were consecutive and did included an away trip to Congleton, I really can not heap enough praise on the boys, they never complained they just got on with it, I rested eight players for the AFC Fylde game, since that game there as been four games of which three were consecutive nights, I brought the eight back into the squad and those players have had to play in every game since.
Make no mistake the games we had were intense games due to the teams having something to play for, Squires Gate wanted to end their season in probably their best league position for a few years, Congleton wanted the third spot in the League, Ramsbottom was local pride, then finally Newcastle had to win to claim third spot over their local rivals Congleton, this in itself made the final week a tough one, I would bet that no other team in the country will have had to face the run in we have had to have done, so to finish eighth in the league and only one win off our target of the sixth spot, then every credit must go to the entire Bacup Borough Football Club Squad Captained by Davey Luker who has lead the team by example impeccably throughout “

BOROUGH BACK TO WINNING WAYS: Bacup Borough Manager brought back the eight players that he left out of the AFC Fylde game and how the rest seemed to have done the players a whole lot of good as the home side were quite sharp from the kick off producing some neat controlled football on a pitch that looked more suited to the opening day of the season.
The home sides approach play was majestic at times utilising the pitch well, creating several chances. A John Robinson header found Tommy Turner who’s shot was saved, Jamie Rother got in a shot from the edge of the box which was wide of the post. Steve Smith hit a defence splitting ball which John Robinson got on the end of before shooting wide, Ryan Giggs forced a corner which resulted in a Robinson header over the cross bar........Full Report |

YOUNG GUNS GIVEN CHANCE: Despite the fact that Bacup Borough were playing the joint league leaders Manager Brent Peters started the game with almost an entire second string team, Peters made the audacious choice to leave eight of his regular first choice side out of the starting line up with five sat on the substitutes bench and three left out altogether, this despite all being fully fit to start the game. This included Club Captain Davey Luker, leading Goal Scorer Tommy Turner, and Rhodri Giggs to name but a few.
In some quarters the decision to play what was almost a reserve side which included two players that had not made a start all season in the first team could have been deemed to have been showing the opposition disrespect, however we posed the question to Manager Brent Peters who had this to say “My job always is doing what I consider to be in the best interest for Bacup Borough Football Club, the players I left out have played in almost all of our games of which we have been playing three times per week for several weeks. The final week of the season we have games Monday, Wednesday, Thursday & finally on Saturday and we have targets of where we want to finish after what up until now as been a good season for us. In order to give us that chance to achieve our objective I decided on the team which started........Full Report |

BACUP LEFT TO RUE POOR DECISION: Its was very much ironic that the match official was called Mr Crop as in the last five minutes of the game he came a right cropper with a bizarre decision which cost Bacup at least a share of the points. Thankfully it was a sparse crowd, had it have been a crowd of significant volume, then his handling of this particular decision could have erupted a bigger crowd into far serious consequences something the FA must surely look at when appointing inexperienced officials to matches in the future.......Full Report

BACUP SUPPORTERS LEFT SCRATCHING THEIR HEADS: Bacup Borough supporters will be hard pressed to find a more one sided game anywhere when the dominating team create as many opportunities as Bacup Borough did, yet fail to find the net and then to make matters worse concede two goals in the bargain.
Despite how well Bacup had started it was Maine Road that took the lead on seven minutes, this came as a result of James Rothel being given too much space from which he got his shot off resulting in a good save by Tomposs who pushed the ball away, Maine Road picked up the loose ball and still found Rothel in space who was not going to give Tomposs the chance to save with a well struck goal.......Full Report |

BOROUGH RETURN TO WINNING WAYS: This was the third meeting this season between the two and in previous meeting Bacup came off second best, such was never going to be the case in this encounter following an excellent all round team performance.
The visitors started very much on the front foot to produce an early chance when Warren Collier sent in a deep cross from the right from which the Runcorn keeper came but failed to get anything on the ball leaving striker Tommy Turner and the Runcorn centre back challenging in the air from which Runcorn cleared.
Steven Smith and Sean Roscoe combined well down the left side of the pitch for Roscoe to deliver an excellent quality ball across the face of the goal, had Martin Cosgrave thrown himself at the ball it would have been a certain opening goal......Full Report

DERBY DAY DRAW : The points were shared in this East Lancashire Derby but Bacup's Tommy Turner should have come away with the match ball and a hat trick to his name and celebrating three points for the home side in the bargain.
Bacup started well dominating the early stages of the game, their first opportunity came when Giggs was given a defence splitting ball which the Colne keeper came and seemed to take out Giggs but the official was not having it was a penalty despite the Bacup claims, then Steven Smith did well on the left before producing a quality cross in which first of all Giggs headed and then Turner but just over the bar. Despite Bacup Borough's early pressure it was Colne that took the lead. Bacup conceded a free kick at the edge of the box, the kick was partly defended but Colne soon won back possession on their left hand side of the pitch, the ball went into the path of defender Billy Priestley who shot across Tony Tomposs to give the visitors a twelve minute lead.....Full Report |

BANK HOLIDAY BLUES: Whilst this was a holiday fixture people could be excused for thinking it was pantomime season after witnessing three out of their four goals that the Bacup Borough Manager Brent Peters described as kamikaze defending.
In the opening fourteen minutes Bacup actually started well with Rhodri Giggs back after an injury lay off causing the Nelson defence problems assisted by Tommy Turner, several Bacup attacks were mounted but desperate defending ensured that Bacup's bright start came to nothing. On fifteen minutes and following yet another Bacup attack when Kyle Harrop broke into the box but saw his effort go wildly off the mark leading Nelson to knock the ball long up the pitch from which Nelson’s Sam Heap got onto the end of the ball before turning Jacub Wood inside and out before finishing past Melville.....Full Report |

Due to heavy rain yesterday and also overnight and this morning today's game with Maine Road has been called off after a 9am pitch inspection by the referee.
A spokesman for the club said ”It was soul destroying for the groundsman who had got the pitch ready for the game, following a trip to Burnley when on his return the pitch was under water following torrential rain, it was then decided to arrange for the pitch to be inspected.
if there is any good to come out of this, the weather forecast is favourable over the next two days, so the Easter Monday game should go ahead (3pm) & hopefully the Wednesday game with Colne will also not be affected (7-45pm). |

Brent Peters Pays Tribute to His Former Club Glossop North End on Reaching Wembley |
| |
Monday 6th April 2009 |
| |
Bacup Borough Boss Brent Peters today paid tribute to the Directors Manager & Players of his former club Glossop North End on their achievement in getting to Wembley in the FA VASE FINAL.
“Glossop Football Club will always have a special place in not only my heart but that of my father’s and quite a lot of East Lancashire based footballers who joined me during my time there as Manager during the 1990/91 football season.
I have very fond memories of our time at the Derbyshire Club a time which was successful, nothing compared to the achievement’s of Steve Young and his current management team in guiding the club to the twin towers"
Brent continued "Glossop is a great little club and one which is very much infectious, it must be because when I moved on to pastures new, my father stayed on at the club for another two seasons, travelling from his Rossendale home.
Their big day in the capital is going to be a special and moving day for Peter Hammond without the services and dedication of Peter over the years, Glossop would certainly not be in existence and on the road to the twin towers come May.
I truly hope for the benefit of everyone connected with Glossop North End Football Club they bring back the FA Vase to the Derbyshire Hills, the town recognise the work and dedication of Peter Hammond in keeping the club alive and that both Peter and Manager Steve Young are given the freedom of the Town, it will be nothing short of what they deserve for their excellent achievements win or loose"

BACUP'S INJURIES MOUNT Bacup Borough had no less than five players missing, four with injuries and one on holiday, to add to this they lost the services of Steve Sheil & Tommy Turner during a disappointing first half which saw them go three goals behind.
New deadline signing Steven Smith from Newcastle & Bamber Bridge must have wondered what he had let himself in for during the first forty five minutes when as early as the tenth minute Abbey Heys Danny Heffernan slipped in Danny Doherty producing a great save from Phil Melville tipping the ball over the bar for a corner which was defended....Full Report

BACUP CRASH Bacup Borough Manager Brent Peters kept faith with the team that did so well in defeat at New Mills with the exception of Steve Sheils who was an absentee, on reflection of the outcome of this game and the way the team played it was in total contrast to Monday. Right from the off Colne showed their intentions by closing down well and working extremely hard, as early as the tenth minute Liam Garbutt capitalised on a bad kick from goalkeeper Phil Melville but Melville made amends when he tipped Garbetts shot over the cross bar for a corner which was defended...Full Report
