David May
Previous Clubs: Blackburn Rovers, Manchester United, Burnley, Bacup Borough
Last Appearance in the Premiership: Manchester United 2-0 Arsenal, 07/12/2002
David May could have initially felt he picked the wrong time to move from Blackburn Rovers to Manchester United. He made his full debut for United in the 1994 Charity Shield final against his old club at Wembley, but unfortunately for him Gary Pallister and Steve Bruce were the other central defenders on the Reds' books and he never got a foothold in the team. His former team-mates at Ewood Park then went on to claim the 1994/95 Premiership title, edging out United in a dramatic final day of the season. Although Sir Alex Ferguson rated May highly, he never got into his stride for the Old Trafford club with his form often patchy and upset by injury. He finally left United in 2003 and, after a spell at Burnley, May joined North West Counties League side Bacup Borough. May's debut was a 4-0 defeat by Nantwich. Luckily though, the former Premier League man was let off by his new manager Brent Peters, who told the Lancashire Evening Telegraph: "That was nothing to do with David. It wouldn't have mattered if Rio Ferdinand, Ruud van Nistelrooy and Wayne Rooney were playing for me on Saturday as well because three of the four goals were down to one individual's errors." May was linked with a move to the newly-formed FC United of Manchester in 2005, but stayed on to become assistant boss at Bacup. |

PAUL BECK
Previous Clubs: Darwen, Rossendale United, Clitheroe, Accrington Stanley
Last Appearance in the Unibond: Chorley 0-0 Accrington Stanley, April 1996
Paul Beck played only two games for Bacup due unfortunately to a back injury at the end of his carreer. Paul was a prolific goalscorer at non league level, starting his career at Darwen at the age of 16 in the old Cheshire League before moving to Accrington Stanley for the first of his three spells there. Moving to Rossendale United launched his career where he score 148 golas in only 198 games including 43 in their first season in the Unibond League. He was a member of the Rossendale team which won the North West Counties Division 1 title in the 1998-99 season. In between his two spells at Rossendale he had one season at Clitheroe scoring 25 goals. In his third spell at Accrington Stanley Paul reached 'Roy of The Rovers' proportions in the 1992-93 season scoring 43 goals including a hatrick in the FA Cup 1st Round which was a featured game on Match of The Day. His final and 300th game for Accrington was bizarre in that he played 90 minutes in goal away at Chorley due to the absense of their regular goalkeeper due to the birth of his first child. Predictabily he kept a clean sheet. Paul has crossed swords many times with our current Manager Brent Peters at Rossendale, Accrington and his two games with Bacup. |
