Bacup Boroughs West View Stadium was once a ground that the opposition did fear, a ground where anything that any team did come away with would have had to have been worked hard to gain, sadly not any more on this showing, whilst in between the goals Bacup were every bit as good as their cheshire opponents but gifting the opposition was never in the equation until the sixth minute of the game when the opposition won their first corner, the ball was swung in and for some inexplainable reason big John Luker let his opponent Matt Haddrell steal a march on him to thunder an header past Horridge in the Bacup goal, this goal unsettled Bacup who did seem to be getting over run in midfield until Manager Brent Peters made an early substitution replacing Fitton with Borg along with some other positional changes, gradually Bacup started to get on the ball and did start to work some good openings, Ian Barker should have made more of an opportunity when Adam Wilkes the Congleton keeper did slip whilst over playing at the back, it was also Barker that was guilty of the miss of the half following a Bacup free kick, Ian Barker did make an intelligent run coming off the defenders blind side, with the Goal Keeper al ready committed going to ground Barkers shot went direct at him when a deft lift over the committed keeper would most certainly have got the home side an equiliser, Davey Luker was also unluky with an header which the keeper saved for a corner which was defended.
Following the half time break Bacups John Luker was replaced by Herbert with Shepherd dropping into defence whilst Herbert took his place upfront, the home side started the half well, keeping the ball better and building play, that was until yet again another gift was given to the visitors, Shepherd under no pressure with the ball coming out of defence did make an attempted square ball to Lee Anderson, the ball was the best pass of the afternoon in creating an opening for the visitors as it went direct to an advancing Congleton player putting him clean through one v one versus Horridge but giving the keeper no chance making it GIFT number 2, however as if that was not enough Borough ensured they put a cherry on top for the visitors when again Shepherd did try a diagonal ball in an attempt to find Matthew Cross, the ball was an inch perfect pass to his opponents full back who did play a one two before driving into the box and scoring making it 3gifts to nil.
Brent Peters Managers Comments" The opposition had twelve men and at times thirteen and fourteen playing against us, their twelfth, thirteenth, and fourteenth men were made up from us, the quality of our passing was shocking, why we are attempting a twenty five yard diagonal ball (3rd GOAL) when we cant even find our team mates that are five yards away(2ND GOAL) is beyond me, I just dont see the opposition gifting us opportunities like we have gifted them, their first goal one could say it was a great header, we will all score great headers if we are allowed to get a run and then direct the ball into the net unopposed, the bottom line is players currently in the side are inconsistent more than they are consistent or the way some are passing the ball I could say they are consistantly bad, one thing that I do know is this week we have no mid week fixture, this will hopefully help me greatly by the fact that it gives me chance to get some new faces into the club plus it also allows the lads who are out injured that do offer us a different dimension a chance to be fit, I am certainly not putting up with what is currently happening, I have to question the standards some of the lads set, when they are saying to a team mate well done and you had a decent game today to a lad who has cost us goals which was the case following the Nelson game it just does go to show their mentality. We can talk about injuries, suspensions etc which is all part of the game, what happend Saturday and the game prior to Saturday in terms of how we conceeeded goals is nothing to do with who we have missing, it is to do with players playing at a level above their station hence why we keep constantly gifting cheap goals.
