Bacup Borough 0 Colne 1 - Mon 14th April 2008

Dominating games is one thing, Scoring goals is another as Bacup Borough found out in this East Lancashire Derby. Percentage of having the ball the home side won hands down but it was Colne that got the all important goal arriving on sixty five minutes to take all three points.

Bacup have only themselves to blame for not being more clinical where it matters in and around the penalty box, minutes before Colne took the lead Substitute Jon Stephenson made a terrific run into the box before squaring for Dominic Slaven who was now on for a certain goal, however for some inexplicable reason he took an extra touch and a glorious opportunity had gone, that opportunity was made all the more worse when on sixty five minutes Colne won a corner the ball was cleared but only as far as the Colne fullback who delivered a long deep cross from which Andy Haworth got away from his marker who was claiming offside to strike home the only goal of the game.

In an effort to get something out of the game Manager Brent Peters introduced veteran Striker Tony Carroll and also changed the shape of the side, whilst Colne got in behind Bacup on counter attacks, it was Bacup that were still dominating possession and almost got an equiliser they at least deserved but lady luck deserted them when the ball struck goalkeeper Chris Brennan's head before being scrambled away to safety.

Brent Peters Managers Comments " Had we have had intelligent clinical strikers out there, then Colne should have been finished by half time, instead we were caught too many times offside thus breaking up any chance of getting strikes off and when we did have chance we took too many touches, for the amount of possession we had in this game Colne should never have had the chance to still be in the game, but no matter how much second best you are, sooner or later a chance will come, its then a case of when the chance comes can you finish it, well Colne did and that you must give them credit for, as for us, well it's the same story if we had the strike force to match all the other positions we would be flying, sadly we are flying with out wings, certainly upfront "
