Manager Brent Peters kept faith with the team that progressed in the FA Cup beating Abbey Hey 2-1 but the players failed to produce a performance that wanted to repay that faith, with so many players on the night under achieving Bacup could thank their lucky stars and keeper Jack Mcgregor that the scores were level at 0-0 at the break.
Following an half time wake up call Bacup Borough came out for the second half a completely different side, a side that was competing and playing some good controlled football, something that was sadly lacking in the first half, however mid way through the half and under little pressure, first half substitute Ryan Hall tried to flick the ball over his shoulder facing his own goal, his mis-directed kick sailed out for a corner. The corner was taken to the far post area where Bacup had three experienced defenders who all went for the ball and in something one would see in a comedy script just impeded each other gifting the Trafford player the opportunity to rifle the ball into the net.
From the restart the ball arrived at Bacup’s Midfield player Davey Luker who beat a couple of players before striking past Campbell in the Trafford goal, one would have thought that this would have set the visitors up nicely to go onto win the game, but no, instead again from the restart Bacup allowed the Trafford player to run from the half way line unopposed into the heart of the Borough defence. still unopposed, the two centre backs parted to allow him through to shoot Trafford into a 2-1 lead.
Borough tried to get back into the game but the damage had been done in that crazy five minute spell and in the dying minutes of the game Trafford added a further goal from a very good strike from the edge of the penalty area.
Brent Peters Managers Comments " For me this game told me a tale about some of my players, Sunday was quality TV viewing with the Manchester Derby and Liverpool Chelsea game, they played and reacted like they had spent the Sunday in the pubs. Monday still under the influence hence why some failed to train & then come to the game they had nothing to stop the movement of a young talented Trafford side. I have never witnessed so many players having an off day in the same game, the midfield were not winning any challenges and in defence, well I could easily say that was School boy defending but that would be an insult to school boys because they would not be that bad.
Credit to Trafford but some of my lads need to take a long hard look at themselves in terms of preparation and application otherwise they will have to be moved on.
