Bacup Borough 2 v 1 Silsden |
||
Bacup Borough despite going a goal behind came out on top in this hard fought Roses fixture. Silsden took the lead on twenty five minutes following a throw in down the Bacup Right, the Silsden defender Jake Mceaneaney got himself on the ball and was unopposed driving into the box before firing the ball over for his midfield team mate Timothy Hird another player unopposed did attack the ball against keeper Max Johnson, Hird got enough on the ball to open the scoring. Although Silsden were working hard pressing Bacup all over the park, this goal seemed to come out of the blue, Bacup almost equalised when Haydn Paul capitalised on a mistake from their defender before firing his effort across their keeper but agonisingly the ball went beyond the far post, there was further pressure put onto the Silsden defence following good work from Cocks and an equal good run by Williams, players were getting their shots off but several Silsden players were standing tall blocking their efforts and Tommy Turner striking the ball into the side netting when an intelligent pull back or drive across goal would have been the correct decision, with this Bacup went in at the half time break one goal behind. Typical of Bacup in recent games they have upped the tempo in the second half, it was no different in this game, Bacup were utilising the full area of the pitch and with it they were sharp in their movement and passing, so much so that on fifty seven minutes Haydn Paul latched onto a through ball but was taken down by a challenge that thee Silsden bench described as rash, the Referee had no hesitation in pointing to the penalty spot, up stepped Adrian Bellamy who made no mistake with a well taken penalty kick. On seventy one minutes Arran Walters replaced Haydn Paul and on seventy six minutes Bacup had taken the lead, this time Daniel Cocks played a quality pass for Tommy Turner to get onto, with still plenty to do Turner ran on and with it turned the clock back with composure coupled with an excellent finish. On eighty one minutes Josh Lynch was brought into the action replacing Matthew Hampson and on eighty five minutes Martin Cosgrave replaced Tommy Turner, despite Silsden throwing men forward in the hope of salvaging something from the game, Bacup defended resolute and with this got the three points from a hard fought game. At the final whistle I spoke to the Bacup Manager Brent Peters who had this to say “ This was very much an hard fought game, Silsden contributed well to a game where two sides were making every effort to play the game in the correct manner, Silsden worked really hard against us by pressing us all over the pitch, Peters added “ their goal came as a direct result of two individuals not carrying out their responsibilities within our team shape, from this we once again find ourselves chasing the game, if we are going to concede I would much prefer the goal to be something special rather than pieces of indiscipline by us as was the case tonight which in effect gave them the lead, the full back was not tracked by our striker and then one of our midfield players lets his marker get ahead of him to score, despite going a goal behind we showed collectively a lot of character to get us back into the game and then eventually to go onto win the match, In the second half Daniel Cocks got himself more into those situations from which the opposition struggle to contain him which led to a well taken penalty by Adrian Bellamy, I was also pleased when Daniel Cocks’s position was changed he did link up well with Tommy Turner who then did take his goal very well, I am pleased Tommy was on the score sheet, hopefully now there will be plenty more for Tommy as it as been a difficult start to this season for him having picked up a virus and then an injury which certainly hampered his pre season and start to the season, hopefully now his goal will help him kick on with many more to follow. Peters Concluded by saying “In the past when we have fell behind we seem to have lost our way, In the past when teams have thrown men forward in order to get something from the game, we have been rash at the back and ended up conceding, Pleasingly this did not happen, we have seen the game out, we have defended well, for me we have also deserved the three points, although to be fair to Silsden they were a close second “Team: Subs Not Used: Ed Williams, Mark Taylor Goals: Adrian Bellamy 57, Tommy Turner 76
