Bacup Borough 1 v 6 Runcorn Town |
||
Bacup Borough were hit for six But the Bacup Manager Brent Peters Defends his decision to leave out several of his top players ahead of their game at Barnoldwick on Tuesday. There was to be no place in the starting line up for Captain Davey Luker, Daniel Cocks, Kingsley Williams, Stuart Nixon, Adam Turner & Gareth Wager, with Ed Williams, Marc Taylor, Josh Lynch & Wayne Morrison making their first starts of the season. Speaking to Manager Brent Peters after the game he denied showing Runcorn Town a lack of respect by naming an under strength side when he had this to say “ After monitoring our squad of players following our summer preparations we have identified that we have a squad of quality athletic footballers, with this it was always our decision to rotate the squad taking several situations into consideration, with this it would keep the team fresh and also not run the risk of players losing their fitness and sharpness by not being involved over a period of games, the players were fully aware that this would from time to time be happening, with two big games ahead of us this week Barnoldswick (Tuesday) and AFC Blackpool in the FA Cup (Saturday ) it was with our best intentions that we made these changes, nothing to do with under estimating Runcorn Town. Without taking anything away from our visitors win, every goal they scored was from basic errors from certain players to which they did punish us but they were that much of gifts that even the local dog and duck pub team would have done exactly the same, punish us. Peters added “ Managers and Coaches have to put their trust into players, it is not always about going for the safe option, it is also about trusting untried players to go in and pick up the baton and run with it, in this game we trusted lads to go in and not let us down, sadly for some they have betrayed my trust and with it as come this result, Peters said “ one of the most important factors in any team must be talking and organising and with this, being able to talk and organise when we are enjoying good spells of possession in order to be set for the inevitable of us losing possession in order that we can then counteract their threat, Peters added whilst at times our passing was sloppy and poor, whilst at times certain individuals were hiding and not wanting that pass, whilst at times when the ball went up front one players control was a pass, the majority of Runcorn’s goals did come as a direct result of no talking, no organising & poor passing from us, from this our central defenders were allowing themselves to be exposed from which Runcorn exploited, Peters added “ all our leaders were on the bench and sadly the ones on the pitch on the day failed to take control by talking and organising, a commodity that should come easy to everyone , One thing is a stone wall certainty the watching Barnoldswick representative will have left bewildered and scratching his head as he would not have been able to identify our shape, because we had none, and or certain individuals or which positions they would be playing, this because Tuesday will bring with it a totally different side with different personal and hopefully better passing, talking and organising from everyone “ Runcorn took into the half time break a two goal lead, then immediate following the break yet another miss directed pass from Bacup set Runcorn up for their third, their fourth was a long ball up the pitch that had the Bacup keeper been more alert any danger he would have cleared but by starting to come late the keeper was chipped, then Bacup conceded a fifth following another chip off the bar with Bacup’s centre back watching the action rather than defending, his marker tapped the ball unopposed into the empty net, Runcorn’s final goal came when two players failed to play to the whistle claiming the ball was over the bye line also the Bacup keeper stopped resulting in him being beat at his near post. Daniel Cocks got a late consolation goal for Bacup. Team: Subs Not Used: Kingsley Williams, Stuart Nixon Goals: Daniel Cocks 82
