Bacup Borough 1 v 0 Padiham

Bacup Borough’s Impressive Run Continued with this one nil victory against a spirited Padiham side, the difference between the two sides was a seventy fifth minute goal from Tommy Turner.

From the kick off it was Padiham that started the brightest, very much on their front foot working extremely hard in order to not let Bacup settle, if this was their game plan, then it was working a treat for them, as early as the third minute Padiham’s Stuart Telfer found himself unmarked in front of goal but he failed to take advantage, at the opposite end the lively Daniel Cocks for Bacup won his side a free kick but the quality in from the kick was poor, then following good approach play with the impressive Arran Walters linking with Tommy Turner before releasing the ball for Adrian Bellamy who was just about to shoot at goal when a terrific challenge was produced on him, this ensured it was all square at the break.

Bacup who incidentally finished the first half strong started the second half in much the same vein with several good positions worked, Adrian Bellamy had a double effort blocked, then Daniel Cocks had worked a good position but his shot was deflected out for a corner which was defended.

Quite a lot of the second period Padiham were constantly chasing, with this creating very little, Padiham managed to earn them selves a corner which was fizzed in, how they did not score was testament to how Bacup were defending as a unit, then Ed Williams having supported Daniel Cocks did whip a first time quality ball in but not one Bacup player could get on the end of it, this was then, it certainly was not the case in the seventy fifth minute when following very good approach play involving Cocks, Bellamy, Kingsley Williams who put in a good cross which was complimented with an excellent finish by Tommy Turner with the outside of his boot.

Padiham made a couple of changes but despite a spirited start to the game, Bacup were worthy winners in the end.

Following the game the Bacup Manager Brent Peters had this to say “ This game turned out to be the typical case of win ones battle and then go onto win the war , but let us not make any mistake for a good twenty minutes of the first half Padiham were very much on their front foot and did work hard pressing all over the pitch, this was effective as it prevented us building many moves, Peters added “ the question was how long could they keep that work rate up, for me the signs were there after thirty minutes that certain players were starting to run out of steam, and from this we gradually got on top to finish the half strong, the second half Padiham were not posing a threat as we started to use the ball well and at the same time intelligently we would utilise the whole area of the pitch, the move leading to our goal was very good, the quality on the ball coming in was excellent and the finish was top drawer, Peters finished by saying “ this team have come a long way together and have learned along the way on how to see games out, last season we would have conceded a late goal, whilst out there in this game we looked solid and composed, credit for this must go to the Skipper Davey Luker and Gareth Wager who never shut up. “ I am really pleased for the boys, they worked hard for this result but they were made to do so by Padiham has every player from them, all seemed to be up for this game with their work ethics and battling qualities , I was also pleased with our fitness levels and how strong we finished the game “
