They say that lightening does not strike twice, well it certainly did at the Brian Boys West View Stadium when following the original game at the Arbories when Padiham scored an injury to time equaliser to take this tie into extra time and a replay, Bacup who were leading with a twenty sixth minute penalty converted by Captain Davey Luker after Daniel Cocks had been brought down in the box, The excellent Referee Mr Price had indicated four minutes of stoppage time when with almost the last throw of the dice for brave Padiham who won a corner, everyone went up including the Padiham Goalkeeper Davies, now with a goal area as congested and reminiscent of a packed London Tube train full of commuters, the ball was delivered and would you believe it the Padiham keeper got the vital touch to once again deflate the Borough whilst Padiham were on a delirious high to be taking this tie once again into extra time. Bacup once again despite conceding a late equaliser to their credit did pick themselves up to produce some excellent football in the remaining thirty minutes and on ninety eight minutes did get themselves back in front again this following a quality delivery from Kade Coppin from the right hand side of the pitch, Martin Cosgrave in space at the opposite side got on the ball to produce a good finish. Four minutes into the second period of extra time it was game over when following a free kick in a wide position the ball was delivered with quality before being headed down for eighteen year old Hayden Paul James to produce an excellent strike giving the Padiham keeper no chance and finally securing Bacup a place in the next round against Neighbours Rossendale United. Manager Brent Peters Spoke After The Game Who Had This To Say “Including our league fixture with Padiham we have both played three hundred and thirty minutes of football against each other this season to date, taking the magnitude of the two FA Vase games and what was at stake I have to compliment both sets of players for being a credit to not only this fantastic competition but also to the Vodkat league, every game has been contested with passion, commitment, competitiveness but without any malice, no ugly incidents just two teams wanting to fight their corners in a manner that would make both sides ambassadors for the FA Respect campaign, Peters went on “ whilst I am highly delighted to be progressing in this competition I really do feel for Alan Smith and the people working hard for Padiham because I know from first hand just how much the prize money means to our clubs in our quest for survival, Peters added “ tonight as been stressful from the start for both myself and Craig Chadwick my counterpart at Padiham, we both had cars held up for several hours in an earlier motorway accident which meant we both had to make last minute changes from our original line up, this is where I must compliment the individual performance of Ashley Higgins who whilst having never played at Right Full Back previously he did step into the breach and did very well, whilst I had issues of fine tuning to do at half time with my defensive unit in order to nullify Padiham’s threat something I could see, but they were some what vague to it, Gareth Wager, Johnny Luker and Robert Fox once aware of the situation did master it well, Davey Luker & Lee Oldham had masterful performances, Daniel Cocks was always a threat as were the movement upfront of Lance Ogunyode and Hayden Paul James who for eighteen years of age looked every bit like he can be a player with a bright future, I was well impressed not just with his finish but his intelligent runs and positions he was taking up, my final word must go to Martin Cosgrave, Peters went onto say “ following a disappointing show at BamberBridge Martin was not originally selected for this game, however with the hold up of one car full of players on the motorway Martin was brought in at the eleventh hour, this time he did not disappoint, Martin did take on board the position I told him to take up a position where so many balls drop with usually no one there, by heeding my instruction he got himself a goal and well taken to, all in all what started an extremely difficult and stressful evening did finish with a positive, credit to my lads for the way they handled conceding yet another late goal to take the game into extra time, a lesser team would most certainly have capitulated having happened two games running but these lads composed themselves to be masterfully convincing in the extra time period “ Team: Jon Paul Lewis, Ashley Higgins, Gareth Wager, Johnny Luker, Robert Fox, Chris Ogunyode (Kade Coppin), Lee Oldham, Davey Luker, Daniel Cocks (Martin Cosgrave), Lance Ogunyode (Falco Lourenco ) Hayden Paul James Subs Not Used: Adrian Bellamy Steve Dryden (GK) Goals: Luker D pen 26, Cosgrave 98, Hayden-James 119
