Bacup Borough Manager Brent Peters Summer Striker Target Sam Heap scored a hat-trick to add further misery to the Bacup Boss.
The home side started really well playing some excellent controlled football moves, twice Bacup struck the bar through Man of The Match Sean Roscoe but it was at the opposite end of the pitch where Bacup pressed the self destruct button for Sam Heap to open the scoring against the run of play. Bacup had a throw in at almost the end of the touchline near the corner flag, the ball was thrown to Bacup Borough centre back Hodson in space but his sliced pass was intercepted by Heap to open the scoring and putting Nelson into the lead.
Bacup soon got themselves back into the game again when Matthew Hampson found Sean Roscoe who’s well struck shot struck the bar but on hand to follow in was Lee Oldham to get the game back on level terms.
Chances were created at both ends but the score line did remain the same until into the second half, changes were made in the second half, Moises Costa Soares, Steven Hogg and Steve Smith were introduced, it was the latter Steve Smith who following good possession by Bacup did make the wrong costly decision which led to Nelson getting themselves in front, with Smith in the centre of midfield and Cosgrave in the channel wanting the ball, Smith opted for a more difficult ball going to the opposite flank in an effort to pick out Sean Roscoe, the ball was cut out before being delivered diagonally across the pitch to Sam Heap, Bacup centre back Nick Hudson failed to drop off appealing for offside, Bacup’s full back Aidrian Bellamy played to the shout, the offside never came but Heap was away attacking the space before drawing Tommy Allen to place the ball past him into the net.
Nelson’s third goal came very quickly following a Bacup Borough Corner, the ball was cleared up the pitch, Bacup defender Bellamy made the wrong decision to step infront, not winning the ball allowing the Nelson player to attack the space provided before finding Heap who beat keeper Tommy Allen from an area of the pitch he should not be getting beaten from.
Bacup pulled another goal back when some clever footwork from Steven Hogg before finding Sean Roscoe who fired Bacup right back into the game, Bacup should have got an equaliser, first of all Nelson Keeper Chris Thompson palmed the ball out and both Smith and Cosgrave should have had the ball into the net, then several quality balls ran across the Nelson goal line crying out for a touch which failed to come and then a Steven Hogg header to the back post was failed to be attacked.
Bacup have only themselves to blame for this defeat were the words of their Manager Brent Peters, he said” basic errors have cost us against a team that were a million miles away from us in terms of quality, the difference being when we make those errors the opposition have one player that certainly does not need second chances to score, that being Sam Heap in fact the Nelson front two apart who were two good front lads Nelson were just an ordinary workmanlike team, credit to them, this game is about defending well and taking chances when they come, whilst Nelson certainly did not defend well, they certainly took their chances, as for Bacup we failed to defend well and we failed on several chances that did come our way, that being the case we got exactly what we deserved and that was nothing, at half time I had warned my lads about the diagonal ball but obviously they failed to deal with it, due to a stupid Sunday League mentality shout of offside and typical Sunday League Mentality of stopping on the shout and not claiming and continuing the run, despite the mickey mouse defending we had still opportunities to have got something from the game, the reason we got nothing was due to being too nice infront of goal. On a positive note some of the football we played was real quality, just a pity there was not a positive ending to it at both ends, quality finishes & quality defending “
