Bacup Borough 2 v 1 St Helens Town |

Bacup Borough’s amazing form continues this despite having just completed their seventh game in fifteen days which they have earned fourteen points from twenty one available, having not lost in their last six matches, this run as seen the inclusion of four young players from Bacup Borough’s Head of Player Development Andy Hill’s Pro Vision Academy, three eighteen year olds and one seventeen the latest was eighteen year old Louis Beswick to which Manager Brent Peters had no hesitation in handing the young midfielder his debut which like the other players from the Academy he showed maturity beyond his years. With a first half that brought very little action for both Goal Keepers this until the forty third minute when another Academy player eighteen year old Josh Greenhalgh riffled a thirty yard left foot volley that no goal keeper would have saved into the far left hand top corner of the bewildered Saints keeper’s net, this goal would have graced the top Premiership grounds, places that players like Josh, Fabio, Louis & Arran Spencer could be destined if they keep progressing the way they are within their future development. Still neither keeper’s had made any saves despite the fact that Bacup Borough had taken a one goal lead into the half time break. The second half was in total contrast to the first half, Bacup had several good opportunities to have improved on their slender lead whilst at the opposite end St Helens threat came mainly from free kicks given away around the Bacup penalty area. Bacup Borough doubled their score on eighty three minutes when Falco Lourenco held up the ball well before laying off to Adrian Bellamy who then sent Lance Ogunyode away who whilst seeming to shank his first effort, credit to Lance he corrected this to lift the ball away from the advancing Saint Helen’s keeper, this was nothing more than the home side deserved for their second half of dominance. On eighty eight minutes a lack of total concentration at the back did allow St Helen’s Michael Scully a simple tap in at the far post, this goal did take the gloss off what was goal apart a second half good disciplined team performance. Following the game a delighted Bacup Borough Manager Brent Peters had this to say “Due to the weather and the geographical area that Bacup is situated, we have suffered more than most with the weather hence why we are further behind with our fixtures than most, the fact that we have now been presented with a situation of playing almost every other day/night, this in itself should be detrimental to any team, players not available through injury, work or even fatigue does create a problem of not being able to play ones strongest side, take our last two games we have had to play without our influential Captain Davey Luker to name but one, these situations we have found ourselves in as proved not to be detrimental, the main reason for this being the fact that I have been able to call upon the services of the Pro Vision Academy lads, these lads I have watched, and I have discussed with Andy Hill of if their time is right in order to step them up in introducing them into a more senior environment. This is another general progression within their development, I must give credit to Andy and these young players, the Vodkat Premier League is a tough league but these players have stepped into the breach to show real maturity helped along by their more experienced team mates, Peters added “ our current run of games and results we have achieved is down to a massive team effort by us all, I really cannot praise this squad of players enough for the endeavour, commitment and will to win they are showing, we have another difficult game at Ramsbottom on Tuesday, this will be a truly big test for them, the challenge will be not to let this excellent run end at the Riverside, something I do not contemplate on the form we are showing” Team: Paul Horridge, Phil Prescott, Adrian Bellamy, Barry Massey (Domonic Stockdale), Josh Greenhalgh, Martin Cosgrave (Arran Spencer), Louis Beswick, Lee Oldham, Lance Ogunyode, Chris Ogunyode (Fabio Abreu), Falco Lourenco Subs Not Used: Steve Dryden Goals: Greenhalgh 43, Ogunyode 83 |
